Wound Culture and Sensitivity
(Wound C & S)

Alternate Names

  • Wound Culture, Aerobic and/or Anaerobic
  • C & S

A Wound C & S will be ordered when your doctor suspects you have an infection, to determine the exact organism responsible for the infection. A culture will be grown in the lab, with initial results available in one day. It may take two to three days for a definitive identification; also, various antibiotics will be tested in order to determine the most effective for treatment. Following treatment, another Wound C & S may be done to ensure the infection has completely cleared up.
