Urine Culture and Sensitivity
(Urine C & S)
A Urine culture and sensitivity test will be ordered when your doctor suspects you have a urinary tract infection and to determine the exact organism responsible for the infection. A culture will be grown in the lab, with initial results available in one day, and a definitive identification may take two to three days. Various antibiotics will also be tested in order to determine the most effective for treatment. Following treatment, another Urine culture and sensitivity may be done to ensure the infection is completely cleared up. You will be given instructions on the method for a midstream clean-catch specimen collection.

Reply Report spamHow about using the sample the pharmaceutical companies distribute? Will a pH and temp test tell you if a person has an UTI? Is a microscopic and culture test always necessary? A lifestyle assessment would likely clear up any questions.

Reply Report spamLifestyle would not clarify as you can have a symptomatic or asymptomatic uti. Also, its important to grow a culture to select the correct antibiotic. pH and temp do not confirm infection. Dipstick test can be done by anybody but are not accurate. For those leukocytes in the urine suggest an infection.
