Paternity Testing

Alternate Names

  • Genetic Testing

A common form of DNA genetic testing is used to determine a child's paternity. The child's DNA is compared to his mother's DNA, and any genes that do not match his mother's will be from his father. The DNA from the supposed father is then compared to the child's unmatched genes. Paternity is positive when the genes match. DNA is obtained from either a blood sample, or cells are taken with a swab from inside the mouth. Paternity DNA testing is very accurate and reliable.
