Fetal Scalp Blood pH
- Fetal Oxygen Saturation Monitoring
A small amount of blood may be taken from the top of your baby's head by your obstetrician while you are in labor, and analyzed to determine whether the baby is experiencing distress from low oxygen levels. A small shallow cut is made to the top of the baby's head, the blood collected with capillary tubes, and sent to the lab for testing. The results will determine whether a C-section is necessary.
