Fetal Fibronectin
(fFN)

Your doctor will take a swab of vaginal secretions and from around the cervix, and the secretions will be tested for the presence of Fetal Fibronectin. Fibronectin levels are normally very high in amniotic fluid, but are usually not found in vaginal secretions. If fibronectin is present in vaginal secretions, then the risk for pre-term labor and delivery is very high. Test results are usually not available until the next day.
